In Oakley, recycling sites are located at The Fox at Newfound (glass, plastic bottles, cans, paper and clothes) and Beach Park (glass, plastic bottles, cans, paper, shoes and clothes).

The Household Waste Recycling Centre at Wade Road, Daneshill, Basingstoke can take glass, plastics, cans, paper, cardboard, clothes, shoes, garden waste, soil and rubble, metal, engine oil, car batteries, electrical items, household furniture and other domestic waste.  This facility is open seven days a week, 8am-7pm (1 April-30 September) and 8am-4pm (1 October-31 March).

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will also collect bulky domestic refuse (not garden waste) for a small fee – call 01256 845474 arrange for bulky item disposal, to report abandoned vehicles, or other refuse matters.

Community Furniture Projects

Are you looking for a bargain, vintage or quirky piece of furniture?
Have you been bitten by the up-cycling bug?
Would you like to de-clutter your home?
Are you moving home or in need of a house clearance?
Do you have some spare time you wish to give to a worthwhile cause?

Have you considered a community furniture project?

Community furniture projects aim to provide affordable furniture to their local communities. They collect or accept reusable furniture, electrical goods, bikes and bric-a-brac, which they sell back to the community. The furniture, electrical goods and bikes are sold on a two price systems; a slightly higher price for the general public and a lower price for people who qualify for a range of discounts. However, all items are affordable and fully safety checked. The projects in turn support a wide variety of meaningful volunteering and training opportunities for people in the community and individual with a range of special needs, aimed at helping people enter or retain employment.

The projects have large environmental benefits with the Newbury and Basingstoke Community Furniture Projects diverting almost 600 tons of waste from landfill last year, which is the equivalent of saving approximately 2000 tonnes of CO2.  Furthermore, by reusing these items, the projects help to save money on your council tax.

Additionally, some projects support people in exceptional need who have been identified by social service as requiring furniture and electrical goods urgently.

If you wish to donate items, wish to buy quality goods or have some spare time to give to a worthwhile cause, why not consider one to the local projects listed below.

Community Furniture Project (Basingstoke) 01256 320700 (RG21 6XH) www.cfpnewbury.org/basingstoke.php
