The Borough Council are updating how often your bins are collected to help meet national recycling targets and reduce waste going to landfill.

What’s changing? From October, your black/grey waste bin will move to a fortnightly collection. This means your rubbish bin will be collected one week and your recycling bin the next. Food waste collections stay weekly.

At a glance:

  • Food waste caddy — Every week

  • Green recycling bin — Every two weeks*

  • Green glass box / red glass bin — Every two weeks

  • Black/grey waste bin — Every two weeks*

  • Brown garden waste bin (subscribers) — Every two weeks

*Rubbish and recycling will be collected on alternate weeks.

Your collection day may change. Look out for leaflets and calendars arriving in September with your new dates. You’ll also be able to check your collection day online from September.

Why the change? The Borough Council must halve the amount of waste we collect by 2042 and increase recycling from 30% to 65% by 2035. Over 40% of what currently goes into black/grey bins could be recycled using our kerbside services or local recycling sites.

The Borough Council now offer weekly food waste collections, fortnightly recycling and glass collections, a paid‑for garden waste service, and six council‑owned recycling sites for small electricals, textiles, footwear, foil and mixed plastics.

Let’s recycle more, waste less, and protect our borough for the future.
